Frequently asked Questions
Do I need a referral from my doctor?
No, a referral is not necessary. It can be useful to notify your doctor that you are having acupuncture or cranio-sacral treatments. However not every doctor will appreciate your visit to an alternative therapist. It strongly depends on his/her idea of alternative medicine.
Does my health insurance compensate the consultations or a part of it?
Most health insurance companies reimburse for the treatments or a part thereof. A referral from the GP is not necessary. Consult your insurance policy to see if you qualify for eimbursement.
Does the needling hurt?
The needles used are very thin. The needling itself usually does not hurt, but does come with a sensation. Some parts of the body are more sensitive than others.
How fast can I experience the benefit form treatment?
This differs per disease or ailment. Usually after one treatment you can experience that a change has been set in motion. In general, one experiences a considerable improvement after 5 to 6 treatments.
How many needles are used?
I usually use between 2 to 6 needles per session. The use of many needles means giving many orders to the body. This can be confusing to the bodily energies and can impact the success of the treatment.
How much time does a treatment take?
An initial consultation lasts 90 minutes. During this time we discuss important issues and continue with initial treatment. Follow up treatments take 60 to 90 minutes depending on the treatment method and the wishes of the client.
Are the needles sterile?
In my practice I use sterile needles. These are discarded after use and collected by the local pharmacy for proper disposal.
